Identification of peptides and other organic substances to inhibit the virus-host cell-interaction

The new technology stands at an early stage of development (lab level). The inventors developed a method for identification of short coiled-coil sequences which are binding the viral envelope protein. The coiled-coil interaction is basic to the fusion of virus membrane with the target membrane. The identification of high specific, short peptides which can inhibit the virus-host cell interaction without induction of an immune response could lead to the development of new antiviral pharmaceuticals. The inventors developed a method of identification using SPOT-Technology on cellulose membranes. Investigation on HA2 virus (Influenza) and Tuberculosis are in process, studies on HIV, SIV, Ebola should follow.
