Women inventors & innovators in line for European awards in Berlin in June

The quality and variety of the entries is impressive. They include:

– a new method of strengthening concrete, from a woman company director in Finland

– innovations in occupational therapy for staff and patients in German drug addiction hospitals, from a German woman based in Switzerland

– footwear designs created from the use of fish skin such as salmon or catfish from an entrepreneur in Iceland

– micro enterprise and children’s healthcare improvements in Dhaka, from a woman innovator from Portugal

– spectroscopic techniques for protecting organisms subjected to environmental stress, from a female researcher at the University of Messina, Italy

– the Nokia (Finland) research scientist with 10 patents pending, who is co-inventor of the Minimap viewing method for mobile phones

– new technology for improving public service access for deaf sign language users, from the UK

– an invention that identifies thieves and enhances security mechanisms to protect the public from cyber criminals, such as hackers, from Northern Ireland

According to Bola Olabisi, the event’s creator &organiser, the entries represent a varied selection of exceptionally creative, inventive, innovative women from a diversity of sectors and backgrounds, throughout Europe.

“We are very excited by the various entries we have had in this, our first year of running the European awards,” said Bola Olabisi. “The standard of entries shows that there are many women throughout Europe who are making an important contribution to new technology, working processes and the development of ideas in their chosen fields.”

The European Women Inventors & Innovators Network (EUWIIN) is a new organisation born out of the Global Women Inventors and Innovators Network, of which Mrs Bola Olabisi, the driving force behind the British Female Inventor of the Year Awards,is the Managing Director.

London Metropolitan University is the principal partner of EUWIIN in launching and promoting the new awards. Selection for the 2007 European Awards is taking place in May and early June. EUWIIN’s first conference and awards event will be stagedin Berlin, from 14 to 16 June.
