39th St. Gallen Symposium: a dialogue platform in times of crisis

Participants will include personalities like Dr. Paul Achleitner, Allianz SE, Prof. Dr. Robert John Aumann, Noble laureate in economics, Wulf Bernotat, E.ON, John Elkann, Fiat S.p.A.,Thomas Hendrik Ilves, State President of Estonia and Hans-Rudolf Merz, President of the Swiss Confederation.

The current economic crisis highlights the necessity for active dialogue like no other event. For almost 40 years every May, a global target group of entrepreneurs, top managers, politicians, academics, decision-makers of civil society and students have been cultivating just such a dialogue in the inspiring environment of the University of St.Gallen in Switzerland.

Under the heading „Revival of Political and Economic Boundaries“, this year's „3 Days in May“ will be dealing with the re-erection of barriers in economic and political reality as they can be observed at present. For this purpose, distinguished personalities like Samuel A. DiPiazza Jr., Pricewaterhouse-Coopers International, Brady Dougan, Credit Suisse, Riz Khan, Al Jazeera International, as well as Tharman Shanmugaratnam, Singapore's Minister for Finance, will speak and will seek an exchange.

Participation deadline for the St. Gallen Wings of Excellence Award
The participation of 200 students is an essential component of the St. Gallen Symposium and consti-tutes a crucial contribution to the „Spirit of St. Gallen“. Student participants are selected through the St. Gallen Wings of Excellence Award. To qualify for participation in the Symposium, student applicants must deal intensively with the topic and submit their ideas and visions in the form of a five-to-seven-page essay, a multimedia presentation or a video by 2 Februar 2009.

The St. Gallen Symposium is an internationally significant platform for dialogue on fundamental issues in management, the entrepreneurial environment and the interfaces between business, politics and society. Every year in May for almost 40 years, it has brought together a global target group of entrepreneurs, top managers, politicians, academics, decision-makers from civil society and students at the University of St. Gallen in Switzerland, providing an inspirational setting for open, interdisciplinary discussions across generational boundaries. As an entrepreneurial initiative of the International Students' Committee (ISC) St. Gallen, the St. Gallen Symposium aims to stimulate thought and action for the sustained success of companies and societies in a globalised world.
