10th European Wood-Based Panel Symposium in Hamburg for the first time

The topics of the presentations range from the current situation of the wood-based panel industry in Europe and the plywood and veneer industry worldwide through the development of new locations for the manufacture of wood-based materials in North America to the trade flows of wood.

On the subject of bonding, speakers will provide presentations on lignin-based adhesives, geopolymers as formaldehyde-free adhesives, bio-based adhesives for molded parts as well as the bonding of hardwood. Industry 4.0. is also an issue for the wood-based materials industry. Furthermore, a speaker from the furniture industry will talk about the highly-industrialized production of furniture and the resulting demands on materials and processes.

The agenda also includes presentations on possible influences on the surface quality of fiber boards as well as on 3D molded parts made from MDF, panel materials made from recycled wood and online quality control during the manufacturing process. Two presentations will focus on VOC and VVOC emissions from wood and wood-based materials. Michael Pollmann, Secretary of State for the free Hanseatic City of Hamburg, will speak at the opening of the Symposium.

In order for the participants to be able to benefit as greatly as possible from the internationality of the event, all the specialist presentations will be simultaneously translated into German, English and French.

The two evening events which, as in previous years, are supported by the company Sasol Wax, the International Association for Technical Issues related to Wood e.V. and other industrial enterprises, offer the participants the opportunity to network. This year, the evening reception of the Hamburg-based company Sasol Wax will take place at a location which is typical of the city.

A technical exhibition will accompany the Symposium. Companies which are interested in presenting their latest developments are invited to contact the organizers.

At the 9th Wood-Based Panel Symposium 2014 in Hanover, more than 260 participants from 28 countries took part. Approximately half the participants came from Germany, 40% from other European countries and 11% from overseas, e.g. from North and South America, India, Japan, Korea, Russia and China. The Symposium is aimed primarily at manufacturers of wood-based materials, the supply industry and research institutes.
