European trade association VGB PowerTech awards Siemens the VGB Quality Award 2008

„We are very pleased that EnBW recommended us for this award and that this has once again underscored our competence in the installation of intelligent, cost-efficient I&C solutions to the satisfaction of our customers,“ said Karlheinz Springer, CEO of the Business Unit Instrumentation, Controls & Electrical within Siemens Energy, on the occasion of the award ceremony at the VGB Congress in Stuttgart, Germany. VGB PowerTech e.V. is the European trade association for power and heat generation with headquarters in Essen.

The Web-based I&C system SPPA-T3000 was deployed as a pilot project at RDK 7 in Karlsruhe in late 2005. Thanks to the system's outstanding performance a complete I&C changeout was performed at unit 1 in Altbach/Deizisau in August 2006 and in a further step at RDK 7 in Karlsruhe in June 2007. The two projects were completed on schedule. The decisive factors in favor of the Siemens solution were the system’s high level of flexibility, its straightforward engineering and the standardized user interface for all integrated systems. Furthermore, SPPA-T3000 can be readily extended and also requires less space compared to the original configuration.

From the very outset the new I&C system SPPA-T3000 showed convincing performance with the high availability of its hardware components and a sophisticated, integrated software solution. „These two projects are exemplary in the field of power plant automation,“ said Siegfried Kroll, power plant manager at Altbach/Deizisau operated by EnBW Kraftwerke AG. „The hitch-free project execution and the optimum timing of the two I&C installations are very praiseworthy. In both projects the units will be fully up and running within a very short space of time,“ added Frank-Peter Kirschning, power plant manager at Rheinhafen steam power plant in Karlsruhe.

Siemens I&C systems are deployed worldwide: The excellent response has now been recognized in Germany with the VGB Quality Award presented by the European trade association VGB. Since it was launched in 2005, SPPA-T3000 has been sold more than 430 times worldwide for all types of power plants. Some 80 systems are in the meantime up and running around the globe.
