For building modern service-oriented applications for the intranet and the internet web services offered by service providers are to the software and business
engineer’s disposal. Web services can be combined to create complex services. Therefore the user defines a modular composition of single modules including the syntactic and semantic requirements for input and output data. Then the search begins for the appropriate web services. In most cases only a few or even none of the relevant web services can be found due to mismatches of data types or naming conflicts. Furthermore, only in considering a combination of web services the requirements can be fulfilled. Thus, services discovery and composition is often a timeconsuming and error-prone task.
