France's wind-energy players go to Vienna for EWEA 2013

EWEA will give 20 French-based companies an opportunity, under the Windustry France banner, to put their technology and innovations on display, thanks to a 300-m² national pavilion organised by UBIFRANCE, France's export-support agency, in partnership with France's Wind Energy Association (FEE) and Renewable Energy Association (SER). The EWEA trade show is the key annual event for wind-energy professionals, taking place in Vienna (Austria) from 4 to 7 February 2013.

The aim of the participating French-based groups and SMEs is to showcase their expertise in what is a growing industry, and to meet decision-makers from all over the world on the French Pavilion (Hall A, Booths E20, E30 and F20) at EWEA. The trade show is taking place between 4 and 7 February of this year in the Austrian capital.

In 2012, Europe exceeded the 100,000-MW mark in terms of power generated by wind turbines: this represented close to 7% of Europe's overall electricity consumption. Several countries have announced massive development plans for the 2013-2020 period, with Denmark (6,000 MW to be installed), Germany (50,000 MW) and Spain (40,000 MW) in the lead. These three countries have historically been at the forefront of wind-energy technology in Europe.

In France, wind-power generation that is fully connected to the grid, at 1 January 2013, exceeded 7,000 MW. France aims to supply 23% of the overall energy consumed domestically from renewable sources by 2020. For wind energy, this represents an installed capacity of 25,000 MW, made up of 19,000 MW on shore and 6,000 MW off shore. Thus, wind power alone is set to supply over 10% of France's electricity consumption by 2020.

Thanks to a host of initiatives from various regional players, the French wind-energy industry is expanding fast. Institutions such as Bourgogne Développement, Somme Développement, the Regional Council of Picardy, the International Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Picardy, the University of Picardy, and Le Havre Développement will be attending EWEA 2013 in support of their region's businesses in the wind-energy sector.

•AQUITAINE WIND INDUSTRY CLUSTER (Booth A E20) is the wind-energy hi-tech cluster for the south-western region of Aquitaine.

•ASTRIUM (Booth A E20) specialises in high-performance composites used in making blades for wind turbines.

•DEF (Booth A E20) is a specialist in fire-safety systems, with applications in the wind-energy sector.

•DELTA BOX (Booth A E30) specialises in designing and manufacturing air-traffic beacons.

•ENCIS Wind (Booth A F20) specialises in wind-measurement towers. The company has also developed LED OBELUX, a night-time LED beacon solution.

•EPSILINE (Booth A E20) provides anemometers: the company's solution facilitates local wind-speed measurements by laser in all weather conditions.

•EPSILONE COMPOSITE (Booth A E20) is a leader in pultruded carbon-fibre shapes for a variety of sectors, including the wind-energy industry.

•ESI Group (Booth A E20) specialises in virtual-modelling solutions for the manufacturing industry, with applications in the wind-energy sector.

•FIXATOR (Booth A F20) designs hanging platforms (for performing maintenance on wind turbines), as well as personnel lifting hoists.

•FOURE LAGADEC (Booth A E20), a boiler-making specialist, provides elements for wind turbines (such as transition parts and towers) and maintenance services.

•FRANCEOLE (Booth A E30) produces towers, internal parts, and steel parts for the foundations of wind turbines.

•FREYSSINET (Booth A E20) has a subsidiary, FreyssiWind, which provides turnkey construction solutions for the towers and foundations of wind turbines.

•GRAND PORT MARITIME DE BORDEAUX (Booth A E20), the port authority for Bordeaux, manages the various port facilities in the estuary.

•G-TEC (Booth A E20) specialises in geotechnical engineering services, as well as marine geophysical surveys and marine environmental surveys.

•LE HAVRE DEVELOPPEMENT (Booth A E20) is the regional economic development agency for the port of Le Havre in north-western France.

•PICARDIE (Booth A E30) is the stand for the northern French region of Picardy, with delegates from CCI International, the international chapter of the chamber of commerce; the Regional Council; the Council of the Somme département; and, finally, Windustry France.

•PLASTINOV (Booth A E20), through PLASTEOL, its newly formed subsidiary, offers solutions for blade inspection, using a high-tech drone system. The company makes wind-turbine blades and nacelles.

•ROLLIX (Booth A F20) is a supplier of blade crowns and towers to the wind-energy industry, with a range going from 5-kW turbines to offshore turbines of up to 10 MW.

•SCAIME (Booth A E30) has developed optic-fibre measurement systems, which help wind-turbine manufacturers optimise the steering of their units and wind-farm operators optimise the yield and management of their arrays.

•VALOREM Group (Booth A E20) is involved in every aspect of renewable energy, from development to construction, and from technical studies to maintenance.

•WIND FOR FUTURE (Booth A E30) brings together wind-energy-sector players from Burgundy (in eastern France) with those of the centre-west of France.
