France's wind-energy players go to Vienna for EWEA 2013

EWEA will give 20 French-based companies an opportunity, under the Windustry France banner, to put their technology and innovations on display, thanks to a 300-m² national pavilion organised by UBIFRANCE, France's export-support agency, in partnership with France's Wind Energy Association (FEE) and Renewable Energy Association (SER). The EWEA trade show is the key annual event for wind-energy professionals, taking place in Vienna (Austria) from 4 to 7 February 2013.

The aim of the participating French-based groups and SMEs is to showcase their expertise in what is a growing industry, and to meet decision-makers from all over the world on the French Pavilion (Hall A, Booths E20, E30 and F20) at EWEA. The trade show is taking place between 4 and 7 February of this year in the Austrian capital.

In 2012, Europe exceeded the 100,000-MW mark in terms of power generated by wind turbines: this represented close to 7% of Europe's overall electricity consumption. Several countries have announced massive development plans for the 2013-2020 period, with Denmark (6,000 MW to be installed), Germany (50,000 MW) and Spain (40,000 MW) in the lead. These three countries have historically been at the forefront of wind-energy technology in Europe.

In France, wind-power generation that is fully connected to the grid, at 1 January 2013, exceeded 7,000 MW. France aims to supply 23% of the overall energy consumed domestically from renewable sources by 2020. For wind energy, this represents an installed capacity of 25,000 MW, made up of 19,000 MW on shore and 6,000 MW off shore. Thus, wind power alone is set to supply over 10% of France's electricity consumption by 2020.

Thanks to a host of initiatives from various regional players, the French wind-energy industry is expanding fast. Institutions such as Bourgogne Développement, Somme Développement, the Regional Council of Picardy, the International Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Picardy, the University of Picardy, and Le Havre Développement will be attending EWEA 2013 in support of their region's businesses in the wind-energy sector.
